Has Electrify America Gotten Better?

Yes — measurably. The fastest-improving uptime of any network we track, what actually changed, and the one problem that hasn't been fixed yet.

Yes, and it is not a vibe — it is the steepest measured improvement of any charging network we track. Electrify America’s uptime went from 95.4% to 96.0% over the past 90 days (+3.1 trend score, the fastest riser in our data), driven by a fleet-refresh program that is replacing the first-generation hardware that earned EA its bad reputation in 2021–2023.

What actually changed

Three things, in rough order of impact. The hardware refresh: EA has been swapping its failure-prone first-generation cabinets for new units, and refreshed flagship sites now measure near 98% uptime. Billing simplification: EA phased out its annoying account top-up system for a simpler pay-per-session model. And Plug & Charge coverage keeps expanding — sessions that start automatically fail far less than app-initiated ones.

What hasn’t been fixed

The fleet is still two networks wearing one logo. Refreshed sites are excellent. The remaining older sites drag the average down, and the app doesn’t tell you which generation you’re pulling into. Session-start failures — the payment handshake dying before electrons flow — remain the most common EA failure mode in our telemetry and the main gap between EA and Tesla’s experience.

The reputation lag is real, though. Most “EA is terrible” takes describe the 2022 network. The 2026 measured numbers — 96.0% uptime and climbing, 263 kW average delivered on 350 kW hardware, the fastest speeds in America for 800V vehicles — describe a different network. The complete dimension-by-dimension picture is in the EA complete profile, and the current standing against all six rivals is in the network table.
