The short version: EA is the fastest-improving network we measure, with the best raw hardware speeds outside Tesla — and a session-start failure rate that is still the main thing standing between it and a top-tier score.
Uptime: 96.0% measured, and the turnaround is real
Our telemetry puts Electrify America uptime at 96.0% against the network’s public 97% claim. The 1-point gap is definitional — EA counts a stall that responds to a ping as up, we count a stall that delivers a working session.
90-day trend, month over month: May 95.4% → June 95.8% → July 96.0%. Trend score +3.1 — the steepest improvement of any network we track. EA’s reliability reputation was earned in 2021–2023, when it was genuinely poor. The fleet-refresh program that replaced first-generation cabinets is visibly working in the numbers. The reputation has not caught up with the data yet.
The distribution matters, though: EA’s uptime is less uniform than Tesla’s. Refreshed flagship sites measure near 98%. The remaining first-generation sites drag the average — and you cannot tell which generation a site is from the app.
Delivered speed: 263 kW average on 350 kW hardware
EA runs the most aggressive hardware spec in public charging — most sites carry at least two 350 kW cabinets. Measured delivery averages 263 kW on those cabinets, with 61% of stalls hitting rated speed in at least one measured session.

The vehicle matters more here than anywhere else. An 800V platform (Ioniq 5/6, EV6, GV60, Lucid, Taycan) can genuinely pull 230–320 kW. A 400V vehicle caps near 150–190 kW no matter what the cabinet is rated. If your car is a 400V platform, a 350 kW EA stall buys you nothing over a 150 kW one — position accordingly.
Older paired cabinets split power when both stalls are active. Refreshed sites do not. Same rule as everywhere: check the stall labels and avoid an occupied stall’s twin.
Pricing: $0.48/kWh, and the Pass+ math

The Pass+ break-even is about 65 kWh per month — roughly one full charge. If you use EA even twice a month, Pass+ pays for itself. If you road-trip through EA territory once a quarter, activate it for the trip month and cancel. There is no annual commitment.
App and payment: the honest weak point
EA supports Plug & Charge (ISO 15118) on most 2022+ vehicles, and when it works, the experience matches Tesla’s. When it does not, you fall back to the app — and the app is where EA’s remaining reliability problems live. Session-start failures (payment handshake, stall communication) are the most common failure mode in our EA telemetry, meaningfully more frequent than at Tesla or ChargePoint.
Practical mitigations that show up in our data: Plug & Charge sessions fail less than app-initiated ones. If a stall fails twice, move stalls rather than retrying — third attempts on the same stall rarely succeed. No reservations are offered.
Stalls per site: 4–10, queue risk moderate
Typical EA sites run 4–10 stalls, positioned at retail (Walmart, Target) along interstates. That is enough redundancy for a dead stall, but not enough for holiday-peak demand on major corridors — I-5 and I-90 EA sites queue on summer weekends in our observations, and a queue at a 4-stall site moves slowly when half the vehicles are 400V platforms taking 40 minutes.
Cold weather: derates ~20–30% below 20°F
EA hardware itself tolerates cold well. The derating we measure — 20–30% below 20°F — is mostly vehicle-side, because most non-Tesla EVs precondition inconsistently unless the driver navigates to the charger in the native nav. EA cabinets also self-limit in extreme cold to protect cable-cooling systems, which we have measured on sub-zero mornings on the I-70 mountain corridor. Accessibility
NEVI-funded EA sites meet current federal accessibility requirements — accessible stalls, wider bays, compliant cable reach. Older retail-lot sites vary widely, and tight Walmart-lot layouts with curb-adjacent cabinets are a recurring complaint. Like Tesla, EA publishes no accessibility filter in the app.
When a stall breaks
24/7 phone support, reachable from a number on every cabinet. Response on the phone is quick; the fix is not. Typical repair in our tracking runs one to two weeks — better than the 2022-era months-long outages, still 5–7x Tesla’s turnaround. EA’s saving grace is site redundancy: with 4+ stalls, a single dead unit degrades the site rather than killing it. The failure pattern to know: when one stall at an older site dies, its cabinet-mate often follows within weeks.
Bottom line
EA’s profile is a network mid-turnaround: hardware speeds only Tesla’s V4 rivals, an uptime trend line pointing the right way, and pricing that rewards even light membership use — held back by session-start friction and the aging half of its fleet.
